Another ‘Fantastic’ Newcastle United star now in talk over a new contract at St James Park

It looks like Newcastle United are on a mission to tie down their most important players to new contracts in order to keep them around.

As has been widely reported this week, Bruno Guimaraes is close to agreeing a new deal at Newcastle, but according to The Telegraph, talks have also begun with Bruno’s international team mate, Joelinton.

Joelinton signed a six year deal at Newcastle when he arrived from Hoffenheim back in 2019.

Joelinton has gone from zero to hero at Newcastle

After a very, very rocky start to life in the Premier League, the 27-year-old has now cemented his place in the starting line-up. He has become an instrumental figure in the middle of the park for Eddie Howe drawing praise from the likes of Jamie Carragher who hailed him as ‘fantastic‘ after an away win at Tottenham last season.

It was reported a few months ago that Joelinton had opened talks with the club but then things went quiet, but it now looks like the discussions are still ongoing and the club are doing what they can to keep J7 at St James’ Park.

If you’d have told a Newcastle fan in 2020 that they’d be eagerly awaiting news that Joelinton had committed his future to the club they’d have laughed in your face.

Joelinton’s not been at his best so far this season

Nobody wanted to see Joelinton sign a contract extension in 2020/2021, in fact they’d have preferred the club tore up the one he had.

Then one fateful red card and a touch of Eddie Howe magic later, there’s conniptions on social media if his name doesn’t appear on the team sheet.

Fingers crossed Newcastle and Joelinton can come to an arrangement soon, as even though his form hasn’t been as good as we know he’s capable of this season, Newcastle are a better team with him in it.
