Sunderland have provided an injury update on new signing Timothee Pembele

Sunderland have released an injury report on new signing Timothee Pembele, who has yet to play for the Black Cats after moving from Paris Saint-Germain.
Pembele earned his PSG debut three years ago but was forced to be patient due to his high demand for playing time throughout his tenure with the French champions.

Unfortunately, a permanent break never materialized, and the young defender moved to the Stadium of Light barely two weeks ago on transfer deadline day for an undisclosed amount.

When the player’s arrival was announced, Sporting Director Kristjaan Speakman noted that patience was required regarding Pembele’s fitness [comments via club media]:

“We will be patient with him as he gains fitness and competes for a spot in our team, but we are delighted to welcome Timothée to Wearside and believe he has the potential to become an important player for us.”

Pembele sustained a cruciate ligament injury with PSG last season, which he has yet to recover from. Sunderland, on the other hand, have just supplied fans with an update on the versatile defender [quoted through an official club statement]:

“After returning to action earlier this year following a long-term injury, [Pembele] is currently undergoing a personal maintenance programme alongside the club’s performance team.”

“Pembele’s last competitive outing was in March, and his schedule is expected to fill out over the next month as he transitions to full training and first-team action.”

Sunderland fans may have to wait several weeks to see what the French youth international can offer Tony Mowbray at the back.
