Ipswich Town confirm boost ahead of Sheffield Wednesday clash as Xisco Munoz confirm four key players rule out

Sheffield Wednesday squad to face Ipswich Town with quartet missing but loan pair eligible for debuts.
We look at the squad of players manager Xisco Munoz can pick from as the Owls look to finally seal their first three points of the 2023-24 campaign.
Sheffield Wednesday manager Xisco Munoz has only a few selection concerns heading into today’s home game with Ipswich Town. The Owls host Kieran McKenna’s side at Hillsborough at 3pm.

They are one of just three Championship sides still chasing their maiden win of the season, after a draw and four losses so far. But they will have taken plenty of encouragement last time out when they broke their duck with a goalless draw away at Leeds United. For this clash against an Ipswich team that narrowly pipped them to second spot in League One last term, Munoz has just a few players unavailable.

The extent and actual specifics of Momo Diaby’s injury has yet to be revealed by the Owls after the giant Frenchman sustained a knock on what was otherwise an impressive debut against Preston North End last month. Speaking ahead of today’s game, Munoz remains coy on the status of the on-loan man: “We will see the situation with him.

“If we have luck, maybe he will recover and come back again in the squad. We try to make his recovery as fast as possible and then after we will see if he’s ready. But right now he is out and so we’ll see next week, or two, three, four weeks’ time. He needs to recover 100 per cent.”

Another player not in contention today is long-time injury victim Mallik Wilks. Absent since early April he made his comeback for the club’s under-21s recently but Munoz suggested it could still be some time before he returns to the senior squad.
Elsewhere, neither Marvin Johnson nor Ciaran Brennan were added to the club’s EFL squad list (although one vacancy remains) so neither will feature here. New signings John Buckley and Jeff Hendrick are both ready and available though, after missing the cut-off point in order to be registered for the Leeds game.

The trio of Devis Vasquez, Di’Shon Bernard and Juan Delgado are also expected to be involved despite jetting off to different continents during the recent international break to join up with Colombia, Jamaica and Chile respectively.
