Toon suffer new injury setback and AC Milan boost as Howe issues update on two Mags

Eddie Howe has revealed that Joelinton is set to be missing “for a few weeks” after suffering an injury setback while away on international duty with Brazil.

The midfielder barely trained before struggling at Brighton two weeks ago. He was forced off at the Amex and clearly struggling, yet he still went away with his country and featured twice from the bench.

However, it looks like he’ll now miss our opening Champions League game at the San Siro, along with next Sunday’s Premier League meeting with Sheffield United.

As for Sandro Tonali – who was an unused substitute on Saturday night – Howe said he would’ve been used “only in an emergency” and expects him to be OK for next Tuesday’s trip to AC Milan.

Speaking after our the game at St James’ Park, Howe had this to say on Joelinton:

“Joe had a recurrence of his knee injury playing for Brazil in the second game.

“It looks like he’ll be missing for a few weeks.”
