Vincent Kompany outline reason Burnley’s failure to sign new left-back during the transfer window

Burnley’s failure to sign a new left-back during the summer transfer window hasn’t worried Vincent Kompany.
While the Clarets had a busy transfer window, bringing in 15 new players, they were unable to reinforce in that position.

It wasn’t for a lack of effort, with the club aiming for a deadline-day deal for last season’s loan sensation Ian Maatsen.

A possible permanent move fell through, with the Dutchman preferring to stay at Chelsea, where he is highly regarded by new manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Kompany believes his side has the options to cope ahead of Burnley’s return to action against Nottingham Forest on Monday.

“We’ve got left-footed players in the backline in Charlie Taylor and Hannes Delcroix, both of whom can play at left-back, so that’s not an issue,” he added. “Plus, with the way we play, if there were full-backs bombing up and down the flank it would be much more important, but even then, there are a lot of wingers who play on the opposite side.”

“The most important thing for us, what we didn’t want was to hire the wrong quality or profile for us.” That is something we will not budge on.

“We tried, and we’ll try again next time, but it gives those a chance to prove themselves and play.”
