West Brom Women star announces ‘heartfelt’ exit

Kerry Walklett announces ‘heartfelt’ departure from West Brom Women for ‘various reasons’

West Brom Women star Kerry Walklett has announced her departure from the club in a “heartfelt” social media message.

Taking to X (16 September), the midfielder revealed that she decided to depart the club for “various reasons” before thanking fans, staff and players.

Walklett joined the Baggies two seasons ago and established herself as a versatile goalscorer, nabbing the club’s Goal of the Season award in May.

Walklett said: “It’s with a heavy heart that I have decided to leave [West Brom] for various reasons A big thanks to the fans, players & staff over the last two seasons, I’ve never felt more at home & had some amazing memories.

“I don’t know what’s next but I look forward to the next challenge.”

Farewell

Walklett had a successful two years at the club, helping the Baggies to consecutive eighth-place finishes in the WPL Premier Division.

She will perhaps be best remembered for her award-clinching strike against Stoke City in their 3-2 victory at the Bet365 Stadium on 2 April.

Latching onto a bouncing clearance, her half-volley from outside the penalty area flew into the top right corner, clipping the underside of the crossbar for good measure.

The outpour of well-wishes and support after her announcement shows how valued she was by the Baggies fanbase and staff. While it remains unclear why Walklett departed the club, she offered little to indicate what she’d do now.

She helped her side to the Birmingham FA County Cup final in 2022 but suffered a 4-1 loss to Black Country rivals Wolves.

The cup final was a historic moment for the women’s side and her screamer was memorable. Walklett leaves a fine legacy at West Brom.
