SUCCESSFUL DEAL: Super Star  Player Set Out For Loan Signed By The Manager.

Queens Park Rangers are set to confirm the signing of right-back Reggie Cannon today, according to West London Sport.

The United States international has been without a club since leaving Portuguese club Boavista in the summer following a dispute over unpaid wages, and QPR manager Gareth Ainsworth is looking to bolster his back line after shipping 12 goals in their opening seven games of the season.

The defender joined Boavista in 2020 from MLS club FC Dallas, making 89 appearances across three seasons before his departure in June. The report states that it now appears that the dispute over his wages looks to have been resolved, leaving him free to join another club.

Rumours of his arrival at Loftus Road have been doing the rounds since the beginning of the week and it is claimed that he will partake in his first training session tomorrow.

The Hoops ended a run of five consecutive defeats in all competitions last night when Lyndon Dykes rescued a point in added time against Swansea City after Josh Ginnelly had given the Welsh side an early first half lead. It’s a result that has lifted Ainsworth’s side up to 19th in the Championship, although both Stoke City and Rotherham United could move above them tonight.

The former Wycombe boss will be hoping that Cannon’s arrival will give the squad a lift ahead of Friday’s visit to high-flying Birmingham City, although the Blues have lost their last two fixtures and have slipped to seventh as a result.

Gareth Ainsworth’s fairytale return to QPR – where he enjoyed success as a player – has not yet gone to plan and he will be hoping to steady the ship before he finds himself out of a job. His legend status at Loftus Road will buy him some time, but he will know that results need to improve quickly.

The signing of Reggie Cannon should give the squad a lift and bolster the leaky defence, but the US international is unproven in the English league and there are no guarantees that he will be able to adapt to life in the physical Championship. It will be interesting to see if he is thrust straight into action on Friday night, having not played a competitive fixture since May.
