Bruno Guimaraes is also believed to be on the fringe of penning a bumper new deal at St James’ Park.

Manager Eddie Howe is keen to keep the spine of his squad at Newcastle as he looks to build on the successes of last season – and both Longstaff and Joelinton have been identified as key.

Both players are out of contract on Tyneside in June 2025.

New deals for the duo would be yet another welcome boost in a season which has seen them play their first Champions League game in 20 years.

Longstaff, 25, was a key part of the side which restored Newcastle to Europe’s elite club competition last season.

He played 41 times across all competitions in the 2022-23 campaign, notching three goals and four assists.

The Newcastle academy product has made seven appearances this term despite the mega-money signing of Sandro Tonali in his position.

Meanwhile, Joelinton has been transformed under Eddie Howe.
