‘You are special’: Joe Willock amazed by Newcastle 25-year-old during Man City win

Newcastle United produced a special performance on Wednesday night, as Bruno Guimaraes and co knocked Manchester City out of the Carabao Cup.

The Magpies produced a cup upset to dump Man City out of the competition, with Alexander Isak scoring the only goal of the game.

That did not feel likely at half time. In the first 45 minutes, Man City were dominant. They had all the ball, and it looked like only a matter of time before Pep Guardiola’s side took the lead.

But a change at the break galvanised Eddie Howe’s side. He brought Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon on for Lewis Miley and Lewis Hall, and their introductions changed the game.

Suddenly Newcastle were much more positive and aggressive, while they were also more competent on the ball. Too many times in the first half we gave away possession cheaply, but that stopped once Bruno arrived.

Newcastle United v Manchester City - Carabao Cup Third Round

The 25-year-old was outstanding on Wednesday night, as he looks to guide the club back to Wembley after last season’s disappointment.

To do that, we will need to get past Manchester United in the next round, who beat us in the final back in February.

That will be a chance at redemption for Newcastle, who will hopefully have Joe Willock back by then. In the meantime, he has been forced to watch on whilst he recovers from injury, and he was very impressed with Bruno’s display against Man City.

Joe Willock’s Instagram message to Bruno Guimaraes

After the game, Bruno took to Instagram to deliver a message to supporters.

He wrote: “Yeeeeessss!! Happy with our group! Into the next one. Howay the lads.”

The Brazilian received a reply from Willock, who commented: “You are special.”

Bruno is ‘special’ for Newcastle

Bruno truly is special, and is really getting back to his best after a tough start to the season. While he was not playing poorly, he was not at the elite level that we have come to expect from him.

But now he is shining again, much to the delight of Willock.

Games like Wednesday night’s will make Willock even more keen to return from injury. He is yet to feature this season, but is due to return after the international break.

It will be great to have him back when he does return, as he has been a huge miss despite our recent upturn in fortunes.
