‘Really happy’: Steve Cooper blown away by 21-year-old Nottingham Forest player

Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper heaped praise on Murillo after his debut performance against Brentford. The 21-year-old made his first start since signing from Corinthians in the summer transfer window and he coped well.

Forest named their team and there was a surprise inclusion. Murillo was handed a start, with captain Joe Worrall left on the bench and that proved a bit of a shock to most supporters.

The Reds landed the talented Brazilian star in the summer amid interest from several other European clubs. It was, however, anticipated that he would have to wait patiently for his chance to come.

Naturally, the head coach was quizzed on his shock call after the game. Murillo was anticipated to be getting starts a matter of weeks after arriving but he was happy with his performance.

The youngster is a talented player and he coped well with the demands of the Premier League. Cooper spoke kindly about the defender and he enjoyed seeing him in action.

He told BBC Radio Nottingham: “Murillo is really young and to play as a centre-back in the Premier League is hard. He will be better for it.

 

“He’s done some things that we were really happy with and then there are other things that we will work on with him.

 

“There was also a really important block on the goal line and we’re happy with him.”

 

Murillo will now hope for more starts

The defender will be buoyed by this experience. He will be absolutely buzzing with his performance against a Brentford side that can cause problems for Premier League clubs.

 

At 21, there is still more learning to do. As Forest head coach Cooper alluded to, Murillo did some stuff really well and other stuff will click into place with the more games he plays.

Murillo needs to keep grounded and continue learning at Forest. As a talented youngster, Cooper will know there is more to come and it’ll be interesting to see if he plays next Saturday.
