West Ham confirm major double injury blow ahead of Newcastle United clash as vital players now ruled out

Injury Woes for West Ham Ahead of Clash with Newcastle United at London Stadium

West Ham is facing potential defensive setbacks as they prepare to take on Newcastle United at the London Stadium. The Hammers might have to do without the services of two key defenders for the upcoming match.

Aaron Cresswell and Ben Johnson, both full-backs for West Ham, are doubtful for the clash against Newcastle United scheduled for Sunday. Notably, neither of them participated in the recent Europa League encounter against Freiburg at Stade-Europa Park on Thursday evening.

Cresswell has yet to make an appearance in the Premier League for West Ham this season due to a nagging hamstring injury. His absence has been prolonged, as he has not been included in the matchday squads for the past four fixtures across all competitions.

On the other hand, Ben Johnson featured for a full 90 minutes in West Ham’s Carabao Cup victory over Lincoln City last week. However, a groin injury has now sidelined him, causing him to miss the team’s trip to Germany and their subsequent win over Sheffield United last weekend.

West Ham manager David Moyes fielded a strong lineup in the recent Freiburg match, including the new signing James Ward-Prowse, who had been heavily linked with a move to Newcastle in the summer. Ward-Prowse formed a midfield partnership alongside Lucas Paqueta and another newcomer, Edson Alvarez. Additionally, Jarrod Bowen, who has earned a place in Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad, was also part of the squad for the fixture.
