Leeds United manager Daniel Farke believes today’s match against Bristol City will be “crucial,” according to Leeds Live.
Following a disappointing start to the 2023/24 season, the Whites have made significant progress during the international break.
Perhaps the slow start was to be expected, given that they weren’t able to get off to a fast start this summer due to their takeover drama, and there was also a lot of conjecture about their players.
Wilfried Gnonto even made himself unavailable for a number of West Yorkshire games, and rumours wouldn’t have helped, so Farke may have been bracing himself for a difficult start.
However, the former Norwich City manager has managed to get his club back on track ahead of the next international break, with the team staying unbeaten in four of their previous five league games.
Although they will be disappointed not to have secured three points away at Hull City, they were fortunate to come away with a point after Joe Rodon’s punishment and Adama Traore’s incredible miss.
Following their 3-1 defeat at Southampton last weekend, they were able to get back on track against Queens Park Rangers in midweek and will be trying to carry that momentum into this afternoon’s match at Elland Road.
Where are Leeds United currently sitting in the Championship?
Leeds are now in sixth place, a position they will undoubtedly hold following a difficult start to 2023/24.
They were fifth yesterday, but Birmingham City’s win over West Bromwich Albion last night dropped them to sixth, and it will be interesting to see if they can move back above Blues.
They are currently nine points behind of the top two, which is unfortunate, but a win today against Nigel Pearson’s side will help to keep some of their promotion rivals at bay.
