Nottingham Forest should consider offering a new contract to a 27-year-old player, as his current contract expires next summer – Editorial Opinion
Nottingham Forest had a productive summer once more, securing the services of 13 new players in preparation for the 2023/24 Premier League season. While the high-profile signings of Anthony Elanga and Ibrahim Sangare garnered attention, it’s one of the more cost-effective acquisitions that has already proven to be a savvy addition.
Ola Aina, who joined the Reds on a free transfer, has made an immediate impact at the City Ground, even though he has been playing out of his natural position at left-back. Aina has consistently delivered impressive performances, leaving fans eagerly anticipating his future as a Forest player. Nevertheless, it’s imperative for the club to extend his existing contract.
Forest should consider extending Aina’s current contract. When he arrived at the club this summer, Aina agreed to a one-year deal. While it’s understandable that the club offered him a contract of this duration, it’s in Forest’s best interest to present a new deal that prolongs his tenure on Trentside.
If January arrives without a new contract for the 27-year-old, he would become free to engage in discussions with foreign clubs regarding a potential transfer. Aina has displayed remarkable form under the management of Steve Cooper, even earning two call-ups to represent the Nigerian national team.
Aina appears to be the kind of player who will put in the hard work necessary to maintain his place in the Forest lineup. As a result, he is quickly establishing himself as a positive presence and endearing himself to the fans. His impressive start, despite starting in only five games for the Reds, merits a new contract. Although it’s still early days for the 27-year-old, all indications are positive, and offering him a new contract would be a fitting reward for his exceptional early performances.
