‘I’ll be honest’ – Dean Holden opens up on Charlton Athletic sacking

Dean Holden has confessed that he quickly recovered from being fired by Charlton Athletic just five games into the new season.

Following a 2-1 defeat at now-league leaders Oxford in August, the 44-year-old was relieved of his duties.

Holden was hired in December 2022 and was the pick of the new ownership group, who took control the team in July 2023.

Former Bristol City manager took over Charlton 32 times, winning 12 and losing 15.

“It was difficult in one sense,” Holden explained to Sky Sports. “When you lose your job for the first time, it’s obviously a very difficult time.”

“It happened during the August Bank Holiday weekend, five games into the season.” We won the first game but then lost the following four by a single goal. It’s a challenging situation because it affects the entire family, not just myself.

“I’ll be honest, I got over that very soon. My personal life has presented some difficult trials, but I have learnt to traverse this route.

“My wife always says, ‘If you want a nine-to-five job with no highs or lows, go do that,’ and I don’t want to do that.” I processed it.
