Crystal Palace will be missing some crucial players when they face Newcastle United this Saturday at 3 pm.
In their upcoming Premier League match after the international break, Newcastle will be hosting Palace at St James’ Park, aiming to continue their impressive unbeaten streak of eight matches in all competitions. Notably, last season, the Magpies and the Eagles had three goalless draws, both in the Premier League and the Carabao Cup at St James’ Park, with Newcastle emerging victorious in the latter after a penalty shootout.
Newcastle’s Joe Willock (Achilles) and Harvey Barnes (foot) are expected to be absent for the match, but there is optimism regarding the recovery of Joelinton, Alexander Isak, and Sven Botman, who have less severe injury concerns. The involvement of Sandro Tonali in the game remains uncertain following his withdrawal from the Italian national team due to an ongoing investigation.
On the other side, Palace is dealing with several uncertainties and player absences. Eberechi Eze is facing an approximately month-long absence due to a significant hamstring injury and will miss the match, as will Michael Olise, who has also suffered a hamstring injury. The midfield pairing of Cheick Doucoure and Jefferson Lerma is also in doubt for the game due to muscle injuries, with both players having returned to training and awaiting fitness assessments.
Under the guidance of Roy Hodgson, Palace has had a promising start to the season, currently sitting in ninth place with 12 points, just one position and one point behind Newcastle after eight Premier League matches.
