In San Roque, Spain, the defending champion, Adrián Otaegui, found himself sharing the lead midway through the Andalucia Masters. He carded a 3-under 69 in the second round on Friday, putting him at 9-under 135. Otaegui’s impressive performance has left him tied with Louis de Jager from South Africa (who shot a 67) and Jeong weon Ko from France (who posted a 68).
What’s remarkable about Otaegui’s game is that he hasn’t made a single bogey in the first 36 holes. He attributes his success to consistent play from the tee to the green, avoiding significant trouble over the past two days. Otaegui, a four-time European Tour winner, previously dominated at the Real Club Valderrama with a comfortable six-shot victory last year.
Daniel Hillier is trailing closely, just one shot behind the leaders, with six more players at 7 under. Meanwhile, the U.S. Open champion, Wyndham Clark, who is the sole top-10 player in the tournament, finds himself seven shots adrift in a tie for 44th place, along with Robert Macintyre. Notably, Matt Kuchar managed to just make the cut at 1 under.
