Borussia Dortmund winger reveals what Brighton star has told him about Newcastle United atmosphere

Brighton and Hove Albion’s standout player, Pascal Gross, has provided Borussia Dortmund’s winger, Julian Brandt, with insights about Newcastle United in preparation for their upcoming Champions League match at St James’ Park, set to kick off at 8pm on Wednesday.

Under Eddie Howe’s management, the Magpies are eager to maintain their strong performance in the challenging “group of death.” Currently, Newcastle holds the top spot in Group F following a draw in Milan and a victory against Paris Saint-Germain in their most recent match.

In contrast, Borussia Dortmund finds themselves at the bottom of the group standings. They suffered a loss on the road against Paris Saint-Germain and then played to a draw against AC Milan. Julian Brandt, with the assistance of Pascal Gross, has diligently prepared by conducting research on Newcastle United. Notably, the two players were part of the German national team during a recent USA tour.

Gross informed Brandt, “We can expect a highly positive atmosphere at St James’ Park, quite distinct from the ambiance at City or Chelsea.”

Brandt chimed in, saying, “Despite their strong showing against PSG, we must approach this match with confidence. The group is extremely competitive, and anything is possible. A victory is an absolute necessity for us.”

On the other hand, Dortmund’s head coach, Edin Terzic, anticipates a tough and demanding challenge ahead.

Terzic has prior experience facing both Newcastle and their head coach, Howe. This occurred during his tenure as an assistant manager under Slaven Bilic at West Ham United.

The 40-year-old Terzic expressed his eagerness for the intense challenge ahead, stating, “We’re really looking forward to it. Newcastle has made shrewd transfers, which I’m familiar with and value from my time in England. They are under the guidance of an excellent coach.”

As they approach the game, Newcastle currently holds the sixth position in the Premier League standings and boasts an unbeaten streak of eight games in all competitions. In contrast, Dortmund’s sole defeat this season was against PSG, and they currently occupy the fourth spot in the Bundesliga table.
