Edin Terzic, manager of Borussia Dortmund, has shared his opinions on Newcastle United ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League meeting at St James’ Park.
Dortmund come to Tyneside at the bottom of Group F, having lost away to PSG and drawn 0-0 at home to AC Milan. Newcastle, meanwhile, leads the table after defeating PSG 4-1 and drawing 0-0 at the San Siro.
When asked about Newcastle, Terzic replied, “It’s not just the last couple of weeks, it’s what they did last season.” When you look at their entire history and the investment and money that has gone in, you can see that they have been clever in the transfer market and have constructed a team over the course of 18 months.
“It’s difficult to qualify for the Champions League through the Premier League.” When you look at the group we’re in, you can see the strength, and they’re now top of the group, but only two games have been played, so it’s extremely tight. Tomorrow, we must deliver a strong performance in order to win.”
Terzic has already faced the Magpies and head coach Eddie Howe when working as Slaven Bilic’s assistant manager at West Ham United.
“I played him once and it is exceptional as a stage,” Terzic went on to say. “We can look forward to a warm welcome tomorrow night.” It’s about us bringing our game and energy to the field and making the most of this opportunity.”
On Tuesday night, Dortmund trained at St James’ Park.
