Reportedly, 17-year-old Sunderland youth player Mason Cotcher, who is a promising striker and represented England at the youth level, has garnered attention from Rangers. Although he had an impressive season with Sunderland’s under-18 team last year, contributing to 10 goals in 19 appearances in the U-18 Premier League, he has not played a game in the competition this season.
Cotcher did briefly join the senior Sunderland squad for an FA Cup match against Shrewsbury Town at the beginning of 2023 but has not made his debut for the first team under Tony Mowbray’s management. His future at Sunderland seems uncertain, as reports from the Sunderland Echo suggest that he was recently spotted playing for Arsenal’s under-18 team. This has attracted the interest of not only Rangers but also Brighton, with all three clubs monitoring the young talent.
Cotcher is currently under a scholarship deal with Sunderland, and if Rangers or any other club wants to acquire his services, they may need to pay a compensation fee. It’s worth noting that Sunderland attempted to sign Cotcher to a professional contract during the summer, but an agreement couldn’t be reached, leaving his future in limbo.
