West Bromwich Albion has encountered a double injury blow, further deepening their injury crisis, following a victory over Queens Park Rangers.
West Brom manager Carlos Corberan expressed his inability to enjoy the win as the club’s injury issues continued to mount. Centre-half Cedric Kipre, who has made significant contributions this season after returning from a loan spell with Cardiff City, suffered what appeared to be a serious injury during the 2-0 victory. Kipre landed awkwardly while contesting an aerial ball and had to be helped off the pitch by Albion medical staff.
The exact duration of Kipre’s absence from the team is yet to be determined, but it is expected that he will be sidelined for an extended period. Corberan, who is facing an unfortunate injury crisis with numerous players unavailable, including several academy products on the bench, can only hope that Kipre’s injury is a matter of weeks rather than months.
Corberan expressed his concerns, saying, “It’s not the best news with him, or the injuries we are having. Kipre looks like a serious injury, we’ll know something more on Wednesday. I don’t know if it’s going to be weeks or months. We need to see how much, but it is the more negative point of this game, to lose another player. We are losing many players, but in actions that aren’t muscle injuries. It is painful to lose players who decrease the possibilities in the team.”
Kipre’s injury is particularly distressing because he has been an important player in the squad this season, with the manager and the team believing in his abilities. Losing a player who is part of the first XI is even more challenging to cope with.
Corberan also discussed the unlikelihood of Semi Ajayi’s return ahead of the Coventry City match, as the defender had suffered an ankle injury. Conor Townsend’s return from illness was expected, but Corberan described it as a “miracle” if Ajayi were to recover in time for the match at the CBS Arena.
