Newcastle united threaten Milan with lawsuit over Tonali ban

According to a report in Corriere dello Sport, Newcastle United has issued a threat of a substantial monetary lawsuit against Milan in response to the impending betting ban facing Sandro Tonali. The article underscores that the 23-year-old Italian midfielder is on the verge of receiving a suspension from the Italian FA due to his involvement in the Serie A betting scandal. He has openly acknowledged placing bets on matches involving both Brescia and Milan during his tenures at these clubs.

Tonali’s legal team is currently in negotiations for a deal that is likely to result in a 10-12 month ban for the player. It is expected that this ban will be officially confirmed in the coming hours, as all parties involved are eager to conclude the proceedings swiftly.

Reportedly, on Tuesday, Newcastle made a threat to initiate a multimillion-euro lawsuit against Milan once Tonali’s ban is enforced. They are deeply unhappy that their €70 million summer signing will be sidelined for the remainder of the season. Additionally, it is noted that Tonali’s annual salary of approximately €8 million net will be suspended. This stands in stark contrast to how Juventus is handling Nicolo Fagioli’s ban, as they have chosen to continue paying his full salary and permit him to train with the first team.
