Nottingham Forest is currently in contract discussions with 25-year-old midfielder Ryan Yates, who is considered a valuable asset to the club. Yates, a product of the club’s academy, made his mark in the Premier League last season.
However, Yates, who is 25 years old, has not seen much playing time recently. His last start was in September during the win over Chelsea, as manager Steve Cooper has favored other options, including Ibrahim Sangare and Nicolas Dominguez, both of whom arrived on deadline day. Orel Mangala has also been a preferred choice.
Despite his recent absence from the starting lineup, Nottingham Forest still recognizes the importance of Yates and is eager to keep him on board. The club has initiated contract discussions with him.
Yates has faced ongoing scrutiny from fans since his debut, with opinions about his contributions to the team divided. Nevertheless, his commitment to the club has been unwavering, and Cooper has appreciated his dedication.
Yates’s current contract extends until 2025, so there is no immediate pressure for Forest to secure a new deal. Even though he hasn’t played frequently in recent times, he remains a valuable squad player. Notably, football pundit Jamie Carragher praised him as “fantastic” for his performance in a 1-1 draw against Chelsea last season.
Yates may not have been a regular in the Forest lineup lately, but he has proven to be a reliable option when called upon. Under Cooper’s management, he has seen his career progress to a higher level, which might justify a contract extension.
