Deal confirmed: Fantastic player extends contract

Sunderland AFC can confirm that Zak Johnson’s loan with Hartlepool United has been extended until January 2024.

After signing a new long-term contract with the Academy of Light, the defender joined the National League side on a one-month loan.

Following his arrival at Pools at the end of September, the 18-year-old has made six starts.

“Hartlepool have been fantastic in providing Zak with the opportunity to perform and develop at a high level of the football pyramid,” said Academy Manager Robin Nichols. He is confronting new obstacles on the training ground and in games with them, while also helping a big club in the area put points on the board. He has recently suffered an injury setback, but we are excited to see him return and continue his improvement until January.”
