Joe Chapman has suggested that Okay Yokuslu could be a solution to West Brom’s defensive injury crisis, proposing that he might be a viable starter in a three-man defense against Coventry City. West Brom is currently facing a shortage of defensive options due to injuries, with Cedric Kipre’s recent injury adding to the list of unavailable defenders, including Semi Ajayi. As a result, Carlos Corberan, the team’s manager, is facing a shortage of defensive options as they prepare to face Coventry on October 30th.
Birmingham Live reporter Joe Chapman believes that Yokuslu could step in as a replacement alongside Erik Pieters and Kyle Bartley. He points out that West Brom’s midfield is currently unaffected by serious injury issues, making it the one area where Corberan has a full range of candidates to choose from when selecting his center pairing. Chapman anticipates that Nathaniel Chalobah will continue to perform well, given his recent impressive displays, and also highlights Alex Mowatt’s promising performance when he came off the bench on Tuesday.
Okay Yokuslu is presented as another option for Corberan in a three-man defense. Corberan has recognized Yokuslu’s ability to play in this role, based on his past experience in La Liga with Getafe. Yokuslu previously played in a back three for Getafe and even helped secure a goalless draw against Barcelona during that period. Although Yokuslu may not be an exact like-for-like replacement, West Brom’s current situation leaves them with limited alternati
The upcoming games could demonstrate to West Brom supporters the quality of the manager they now have as Corberan will need to find inventive ways to field a team that can defeat Coventry City away from home without a number of important players.
Yokosulu has been playing well this season despite not seeming like an obvious starter in the middle of the park. As a result, a temporary move to center-back could provide him a chance to play regularly at The Hawthorns, even if it’s not in his preferred position.
It would be a bold move on Corberan’s part to start the Turkish midfielder against the Sky Blues for the Baggies, but one would assume that if he was able to maintain a clean sheet while playing at the center of defense against Barcelona, he could do something similar.
It’s likely that one of Pipa and Caleb Taylor, who are both eagerly awaiting their chance, will start in place of Kipre in the Championship; if Corberan decides they’re not ready, Yokuslu is the only other obvious choice.
