Five-time Champions League winner to be offered to Newcastle to replace Tonali

A five-time Champions League winner, Toni Kroos, is nearing the end of his contract with Real Madrid and might be seeking a departure from the Spanish club. In January, when he turns 34, Newcastle United is considering making a move for the World Cup-winning midfielder.

Kroos has seen a decline in his status at Real Madrid, and with his contract expiring at the end of the season, he is exploring his options. The Daily Star reports that he is currently being offered to top Premier League clubs, with Newcastle showing interest in reinforcing their squad, especially after losing Sandro Tonali for the remainder of the season due to suspension.

While Kroos is getting older, he remains a quality player, and his extensive experience in the Champions League could prove invaluable, particularly if Newcastle is still competing in the competition by January.

There is a question of whether Real Madrid would consider allowing him to leave on loan for the remainder of his contract, and whether Newcastle would be interested in retaining him beyond the loan period, considering he would become a free agent in the summer.

Kroos’ age may be a concern for some, but it shouldn’t necessarily be a deterrent. At 34, he may not fit the typical profile of an Eddie Howe transfer, as Howe often focuses on developing future stars. However, it’s worth noting that in modern football, turning 30 is not the career-ending milestone it once was, and many top players continue to perform at the highest level well into their late thirties. Therefore, signing Kroos could be seen as a low-cost gamble on a world-class player.
