Former NFL General Manager Suggests Lions Rookie QB Could Be Trade Target

Detroit Lions Trade Rumors: Could Hendon Hooker be traded?

The Detroit Lions’ Monday Night Football game against the Las Vegas Raiders has generated a lot of talk, but there are other major events this week, including the NFL Trade Deadline, which is scheduled for Halloween at 4 p.m. EST. As a result, there have been a lot of rumors and trade speculation over what the Lions could or might not do before the deadline. Hendon Hooker, the rookie quarterback for the Lions, may be traded, according to one of those speculations.

Hendon Hooker Mentioned as a Potential Trade Chip

Former NFL general manager Randy Mueller made a suggestion in a recent piece on The Athletic covering the trade deadline that the Detroit Lions would consider trading for Hooker if they received a strong offer, given Jared Goff’s stellar season.

“After a thorough assessment, I felt that QB was a potential NFL starter last year during my draft prep,” Mueller wrote. “Hendon Hooker, who played for the University of Tennessee, impressed me with his arm strength, athleticism, processing speed, and NFL accuracy.” He was one of my top five quarterback picks in the 2023 NFL Draft because of his timing and anticipation when throwing the ball.

It’s nearly necessary to extend Jared Goff’s contract at some point soon because he’s having such an amazing year, Mueller wrote. “Therefore, why not give Detroit a call if your team shares my concerns about Hooker and you still have reservations about your quarterback of the future?””In 2000, during my tenure as General Manager of the Saints, we conducted this once. The previous year, the Packers selected Virginia quarterback Aaron Brooks in the fourth round of the draft. We weren’t sure we had found our future quarterback a year later in New Orleans, despite the fact that I really liked him throughout our pre-draft process. Before Drew Brees surpassed his records, Brooks became the franchise’s all-time top passer. We offered the Packers a third-round pick in exchange for Brooks.

“I would make the Lions turn down a second-round selection for Hooker before moving on to another quarterback option if you are confident in your assessments and your team’s suitability.”
