‘Huge injury blow’ Los Angeles Rams star now ruled out for several weeks

Following a disappointing performance in Week 8, the Los Angeles Rams are at risk of experiencing a significant decline due to a serious injury suffered by their star quarterback, Matthew Stafford.

After a challenging year defending their title in 2022, the Rams made a bold decision to trade some of their high-priced players and address their financial obligations in 2023 instead of making substantial efforts to enhance their roster. Surprisingly, this season has seen them emerge as a notable surprise, given that not much was expected of them. They got off to a 3-3 start, thanks to the impressive contributions of Matthew Stafford and rookie receiver Puka Nacua, which pleasantly surprised many in the NFL. However, they’ve faced consecutive losses since then, with their recent defeat being a low point as they were convincingly defeated by the Dallas Cowboys with a score of 43-20.

Nevertheless, the humiliating loss to the NFC East team may not be the worst of their troubles. During the third quarter of the game, Stafford sustained a thumb injury on his throwing hand and was unable to complete the game. After the defeat, head coach Sean McVay was elusive about providing an update on Stafford’s hand injury. However, a source within the team has shared some concerning news about the extent of the injury.

Matthew Stafford stats (2023): 2,070 yards, 8 TD, 7 INT, 82.0 rating

On Monday, Jourdan Rodrigue, the Rams reporter for The Athletic, suggested that there’s a possibility of quarterback Matthew Stafford, who is 35 years old, being placed on injured reserve. Rodrigue reported that the Rams are currently assessing various options regarding Stafford’s thumb injury. He mentioned that further testing and assessments will be conducted to gauge how well Stafford can grip the ball throughout the week. The Rams are factoring in the colder weather conditions in Green Bay and an upcoming bye week when considering short-term decisions. Additionally, they haven’t ruled out the option of placing Stafford on injured reserve because they are still in the process of gathering information to determine a more comprehensive timeline for his recovery.

It’s worth noting that Matthew Stafford, a former Pro Bowler, had a challenging 2022 season, where he was limited to just 9 games due to an ongoing elbow injury and a concussion towards the end of the season. This new thumb injury adds to his list of health issues, along with a lingering hip problem that he has been dealing with for several weeks.
