With Matthew Stafford recovering from an injury, it is expected that Brett Rypien will take on the starting quarterback role, while Dresser Winn will serve as the backup. The Los Angeles Rams have made the decision to bring Dresser Winn onto their roster, following the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ move to add John Wolford to their 53-man roster. This development signifies that Winn is essentially the contingency plan for the backup position, and the Rams might be very close to having to field the former undrafted free agent from UT-Martin in a professional game this season.
It’s worth noting that Winn had previously been with the Rams during the preseason but was subsequently released. Coach Sean McVay has mentioned that they are assessing Stafford’s UCL thumb sprain on a day-to-day basis. Given the upcoming bye week and the possibility of placing Stafford on injured reserve, it seems unlikely that he will start against the Packers on Sunday.
Although the Rams selected a quarterback in the fourth round this year, it appears that Stetson Bennett is unlikely to be a part of the team this season, according to McVay. As a result, Brett Rypien is poised to be the starter against Green Bay, with Dresser Winn as the backup, unless Stafford is able to return to the lineup.
