Four-Time All-Star Named as Possible Trade Target for Sixers

Donovan Mitchell may be a target for a deal with the Sixers.
The Philadelphia 76ers have a ton of assets after a blockbuster transaction featuring James Harden with the Los Angeles Clippers. Equipped with draft capital and numerous expiring contracts, Daryl Morey possesses the necessary components to execute another deal before the deadline this year.

Several names have surfaced as potential Sixers trade prospects after the deal was made official. OG Anunoby and Zach LaVine of the Chicago Bulls were among the first to surface in the stories. Nevertheless, there is now an additional All-Star player in the mix.

How Donovan Mitchell stepped into a leadership role early in his Cavaliers tenure

In a recent episode of the HoopsHype Podcast, Michael Scotto discussed potential players the Philadelphia 76ers could consider acquiring with their newly acquired assets. In addition to mentioning Zach LaVine and OG Anunoby, he also brought up the possibility of the team keeping an eye on Donovan Mitchell, the Cleveland Cavaliers’ guard.

Scotto mentioned, “Some players that Philadelphia might be interested in are Zach LaVine, known for his ability to stretch the floor, and OG Anunoby, who has the approval of coach Nick Nurse, which is a crucial factor. Anunoby offers versatility on both offense and defense, and the 76ers will have the cap space to potentially re-sign him in the upcoming summer. Other names on Philadelphia’s radar reportedly include Donovan Mitchell, an All-Star guard for the Cavaliers, and Bojan Bogdanovic, who currently plays for the Pistons.”

Donovan Mitchell, aged 27 and in the prime of his career, is having an outstanding season with the Cavaliers, averaging 31.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game over four games.

Acquiring Mitchell could be a challenging task for the Sixers, as the Cavaliers are determined to compete. However, if there are doubts about Mitchell signing an extension, the organization might explore trade possibilities. After this season, Mitchell has one more year on his contract, followed by a player option for 2026.

From a strategic perspective, Mitchell would be an excellent addition to the Sixers, given his scoring ability and compatibility with Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid. Nevertheless, unless the Cavaliers significantly decline in the standings in the coming months, there might be more realistic trade targets available for Philadelphia.
