Corberan may now force West Brom star to quit in Jan after what he said in last 24hrs.

Carlos Corberan may be happy to show Karlan Grant the West Brom exit door for good after what he said

West Brom loanee Karlan Grant could well have fast-tracked his exit at The Hawthorns after comments he made this week.

The 26-year-old joined fellow the Championship side on a season-long loan off the back of a disappointing campaign with the Baggies, scoring just three times in 31 appearances.

However, Grant still remains contracted at The Hawthorns until 2026 [Transfermarkt], but the striker reveals he hasn’t heard anything from manager Carlos Corberan or the club says he is just enjoying his football at the Bluebirds.

Speaking via BBC Sport on 3 November, he said: “I haven’t spoken to them.

“I don’t really know how it works, I’m just focused on enjoying my football here.”

“I wanted to play games, I’m not one of those players that wants to just sit around and wait out my contract.

“I wanted to come here, play, prove myself and I’ve definitely got more to come.”

Asked if he could stay at Cardiff beyond his loan, Grant responded: “I think we’ll see.”

West Brom are certainly thin up front thanks to the blow of Maja’s injury and Daryl Dike’s long-term stint on the treatment table but in the circumstances, it is difficult to heavily critique the decision to let Grant go.

After his struggles to get into the West Brom team last season, his move away this summer was always going to happen and it was counted as Cardiff City’s gain.

However, the forward has scored just one goal and registered two assists in his 14 appearances so far this season so the Baggies were probably right in their decision to axe him from the squad.

With the Baggies forced to cut costs, it made more sense to get the 25-year-old off the wage bill, with the Shropshire Star reporting in the summer (15 July) that Cardiff are covering the “vast majority” of his “significant” wages.

There was simply no point in keeping an unhappy player who was not in Corberan’s plans and given his deal still has three years left to run, that would have seen the Baggies waste millions of money given their terrible financial situation.

The fact that the West Midlands outfit has not spoken to the striker since his loan move certainly suggests that he has not future at the club and it would be best for all parties if they parted ways sooner rather than later.

Corberan could well force him to quit permanently in January if offers emerge on the table.
