Herman Moore Suggests Improved Ways to Use Detroit lions Jameson Williams

Herman Moore thinks there is more purpose for Jameson Williams.
Jameson Williams, the Detroit Lions’ wide receiver, is being developed gradually.

Sadly, not as much of the offense features the quick wide receiver as many would want. His inexperience, drops, and poor relationship with Jared Goff have all had an effect on how his 2023 season has begun.

In an interview with the Detroit Lions Podcast, former wide receiver Herman Moore discussed how the organization may better use the former No. 12 overall pick to boost his confidence and get more performance out of him.

“Though it wouldn’t happen overnight, I believe it could be done very carefully. If I were in his position, I would involve him in it. He would be moved to the slot by me. I would accept him as he is. Moore remarked, “He’s too easy to defend as an outsider. Take him to the slot once in a while. He won’t, in my opinion, find his calling. He and St. Brown together will be an effective one-on-one opponent if you line them up in the slots, run split sets, have two receiver sets on each side, and mirror your routes.”

From 1991 to 2001, Moore was a member of the Lions. He concluded his playing career with the New York Giants.

“I think he needs to get shorter routes, where you’re getting the ball in his hands really quickly,” said Moore. “Amon-Ra St. Brown, for example, identifies gaps in the zones. You’re urging him to break out of his shell and stop being so flat on big routes and huge plays. That is the lowest possible completion percentage. You’re going to keep undermining his confidence, not increase it.”

Detroit’s coaching staff has outlined their objectives for the talented wide receiver this season, emphasizing consistent execution of the fundamental aspects of the position. However, many, including Moore, have observed that the team is not utilizing Williams in a manner similar to his time at Alabama, which has negatively impacted his self-assurance.

Moore suggests that they should involve Williams more by giving him opportunities to showcase his skills in the open field, similar to his college days. He believes Williams should receive more passes to build his experience and confidence, not just relying on deep balls and touchdowns. Moore highlights that this approach would be more effective in enhancing Williams’ performance.

Furthermore, Moore expressed his interest in working with Detroit’s coaching staff or mentoring the young wide receivers on the team, sharing his insights on what it takes to succeed at the highest levels of football.
