David Raya speaks out on Anthony Gordon’s goal and mood in Arsenal dressing room after Newcastle loss

David Raya, who acknowledges that there is a sense of dissatisfaction and rage in the Gunners camp, says there are three reasons why Anthony Gordon’s goal for Newcastle against Arsenal should have been disqualified.

On Saturday night at St. James’ Park, the Magpies defeated Mikel Arteta’s team 1-0 thanks to Gordon’s game-winning goal.

There was dispute, though, since it was alleged that Gordon was offside before the ball entered the net, Joelinton fouled Gabriel, and the ball went out of play.

Raya disagreed, believing that the goal ought to have been disqualified on all three grounds, but VAR determined that it should remain.

After the match, the Spaniard claims that the Arsenal team is unhappy and frustrated. The Gunners’ defeat puts them three points behind leaders Manchester City and in third place overall.

“We all feel frustrated,” he uttered. From my vantage position, I witnessed the ball leaving the play. Although Joelinton pushed Gabriel in the back, the call was made that it wasn’t a foul, in my opinion. It wasn’t supposed to happen that way, in my opinion. And that was offside, in my view. We are incredibly let down.

We did a great job competing away from home today. A extremely difficult place to visit. Our performance warranted a little more than a defeat. It was pretty evenly matched; a draw would have been more equitable. Everyone in the changing room is visibly upset and extremely irritated.

After the disappointing loss, Raya noted that Arteta had little to say to his players but sympathized with their frustrations over the manner in which it occurred.

The boss’s goalkeeper stated, “He only had a little bit to say, he said he was proud on how we competed but he is frustrated with the decision.”
