Gary Neville slams Arsenal for ‘undermining’ statement and names only one error vs Newcastle

Both Arsenal and Newcastle United expressed dissatisfaction with the officiating at St James’ Park, leading to Arsenal releasing a public statement following their defeat. Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville believes Arsenal’s grievances with questionable refereeing decisions were valid, but he suggests they should have addressed these concerns privately rather than publicly. The controversy stemmed from incidents in the lead-up to Newcastle’s winning goal and a failure to penalize a challenge by Magpies midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.

Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, criticized the officiating, prompting the club to issue a strongly-worded statement demanding urgent improvements in Premier League refereeing standards. However, Neville believes public statements may not be the most appropriate way to handle such issues and recalls his own experiences with post-game frustrations as a player. He also emphasizes that managers and players make mistakes as well, and it is important to consider the perspective of referees.
