Following Newcastle United’s victory over Arsenal, Joe Willock and Bruno Guimaraes were subjected to racial taunts on social media. In response, the Premier League released a statement.
Throughout the match, both players were at the center of heated exchanges. Willock kept the ball in play, which helped Anthony Gordon score, while Guimaraes engaged Jorginho in a collision that may have resulted in Guimaraes’ dismissal.
After rising through the ranks of the club’s youth, the 23-year-old made 78 appearances for Arsenal before signing a permanent contract worth £25 million with Newcastle in 2021.

However, the Brazilian received offensive remarks and racist taunts in the comment section.
Newcastle United issued the following statement in response to the incidents: “After Saturday’s victory over Arsenal, Newcastle United strongly condemns racist abuse sent to Bruno Guimarães and Joe Willock via social media.”
“Our point is very obvious. Racism has no place in football or in society.
“We will collaborate with pertinent authorities and social media platforms to identify those responsible so that they can be held accountable. In the meantime, we are offering Bruno and Joe support.”
Furthermore, racism has no place in our game or in society, according to a statement released by the Premier League in response to the incidents.
“Joe Willock, Bruno Guimaraes, and Newcastle United have our utmost support.” The Premier League actively collaborates with all players, clubs, platforms, and law enforcement to help bring hate crime perpetrators to justice and denounces any kind of discriminatory abuse.
