‘Needless’ – Newcastle star handed Premier League ban after Newcastle United v Arsenal incident

Newcastle United’s vital midfielder, Bruno Guimaraes, will not be available for the team’s upcoming match against AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League. This suspension comes as a result of Guimaraes receiving his fifth yellow card of the season during a heated match against Arsenal at St James’ Park, which the Magpies won 1-0, with Anthony Gordon scoring the controversial winning goal. Guimaraes was cautioned in the 88th minute for pushing Fabio Viera. According to Premier League regulations, any player who accumulates five yellow cards in the first 20 games of the season is required to serve a one-match suspension. While the 25-year-old Brazilian can still participate in Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund, he will have to sit out the match on the South Coast during the weekend.

Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe expressed his frustration, not primarily directed at Bruno but at the referee’s decision to issue the yellow card. In Howe’s view, Bruno was in front of the opposing player when he received the booking, and his initial reaction was that it wasn’t warranted.

Howe also noted that there were several unnecessary yellow cards during the game, and with a limited number of players available, the team cannot afford suspensions. Losing Bruno for any match is a setback for Newcastle, but they will have to cope with the situation.

Following the Bournemouth match, Newcastle won’t be in league action until they face Chelsea on November 25 due to a two-week international break. During this break, it’s likely that Guimaraes will be called up by Brazil for World Cup qualifiers against Colombia and Argentina.

Newcastle is currently dealing with multiple key players missing. Alexander Isak, Elliot Anderson, Sven Botman, Matt Targett, Harvey Barnes, and Javier Manquillo are sidelined with injuries, and Sandro Tonali is suspended for 10 months. Howe is also awaiting further updates on Dan Burn’s back injury and Jacob Murphy’s shoulder issue after they were forced to leave the field during the Arsenal match.
