‘Not on’ – Newcastle United star slams petty Arsenal captain after what he did at St James’ Park

Newcastle United vs. Arsenal: In a hard-fought and contentious match at St. James’ Park, the Magpies defeated Mikel Arteta’s team 1-0.
After Newcastle United defeated the Gunners on Saturday night, Jorginho, the captain of Arsenal, refused to shake hands with his opposite number. Jamaal Lascelles has blasted the Italian. As tempers rose both on and off the field at St. James’ Park, a fierce match concluded with the Magpies sentencing Arsenal to their first Premier League defeat of the season.

Just before halftime, Kai Havertz challenged Sean Longstaff forcefully, resulting in a brawl involving players and staff. Bruno Guimaraes was fortunate to avoid punishment after he struck Jorginho with his forearm. Newcastle’s goal was also hotly contested, but after three different VAR reviews, it was ultimately upheld.
In the midst of all the mayhem and controversy on a soggy evening at St James’ Park, Lascelles took issue with an incident that occurred after the game. When asked about his emotions after the game, Lascelles said he was happy with his team’s victory but chastised Jorginho for not shaking hands with him.

“Yeah [I’m delighted], and especially how they go on as well,” stated Lascelles. I’m just happy that we prevailed over them.

“After the game, their captain, Jorginho, refused to shake my hand. In my opinion, regardless of the outcome on the field—handbags or anything else—you should behave responsibly and shake hands afterward.

He didn’t do it, which is why I’m happy we defeated them. That kind of player, in my opinion, is unacceptable.
Even though he is their captain, he refused to shake hands when I went up to greet the group of them as they entered. It’s not on, and I was furious.

“I would never, ever decline to shake the hand of a captain from the opposition. You can have as many arguments as you want on the pitch but shake hands at the end, it’s part of the sport.”

As Newcastle United’s captain, Lascelles has fought through many struggles throughout the years. On Saturday night, the defender expressed his admiration for his colleagues’ fortitude by saying, “I love them, I absolutely love them.” We truly met the test and prevailed in the fight.

Callum was liking it up front, and Joelinton was getting stuck in. Players on our team enjoy that kind of competition, so we thought we would do well in that kind of match.
