Wolves boss O’Neil issues honest verdict after ‘good conversation’ with Howard Webb

Following Wolves’ latest startling move, Gary O’Neil has stated that he had a “very open” discussion with PGMOL chief Howard Webb on Sunday.

At the very end of Wolves’ 2-1 loss to Sheffield United on Saturday at Bramall Lane, the home team was given a penalty.

Robert Jones, the referee, believed that Fabio Silva had fouled George Baldock nearby. The Blades man was already going to ground before the impact was made, according to replays.

During an interview on the Wolves Weekly podcast with Mikey Burrows, O’Neil discussed his conversation with Howard Webb, which took place the day after the controversial penalty decision at Bramall Lane. Following their discussion, the 40-year-old O’Neil expressed a more positive outlook, believing that things are moving in the right direction.

O’Neil shared, “I had a constructive conversation with Howard Webb on Sunday, where we openly discussed the need for improvement. I understand the challenges Howard and his team face; they are currently under a lot of pressure. However, after our conversation, I have confidence that they are committed to making positive changes and implementing measures to reduce errors.”

He further explained, “They acknowledge that some decisions that went against us this year were probably incorrect. We share an agreement that many of the unfavorable outcomes we’ve experienced were not justified. While we can’t change the past, we’re all in agreement that there’s a concerted effort to improve moving forward.”

O’Neil emphasized that Wolves’ primary focus is on improving as a team so that they can minimize the impact of such decisions, ensuring that costly errors do not become a regular occurrence.

After speaking with Webb, O’Neil seems sincere in his excitement that things would get better.

Nothing particular from his conversation with the PGMOL chief was disclosed by him. But maybe some improvements will come about at last. because the current state of affairs cannot last.

However, O’Neil is correct when he points out that Wolves do, in the end, need to improve.

It is imperative that the manager communicates this message and prevents the ‘victims’ attitude from developing.
