Newcastle United is set to face Paris Saint-Germain in their upcoming Champions League match. In the wake of PSG’s recent defeat to AC Milan, Kylian Mbappe has conveyed a message that they can anticipate a strong response from his team.
PSG suffered a 2-1 loss at the San Siro, with Milan Skriniar giving PSG the initial lead, but goals from Rafael Leao and Olivier Giroud orchestrated a comeback for Milan. Mbappe shared his thoughts on the defeat, stating, “It’s a defeat, it hurts. But we have to look forward. We still have our destiny in our hands and we’re going to do everything we can to win at home and give ourselves some breathing space in this group.”
He also expressed gratitude towards the fans for their support and emphasized their commitment to bouncing back against Newcastle. Mbappe further mentioned their upcoming fixtures, stating, “What about the last two games? We’ll play our first game at home. We have a lot of confidence at home. So the first game is at home, we’ve got to go and win it and then we’ve got to make progress for this last away game.”
Newcastle is scheduled to visit Paris on November 28, and the current standings in Group F show Borussia Dortmund in the lead with seven points, PSG in second with six, AC Milan with five, and Newcastle with four.
Luis Enrique, the manager of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), reflected on their recent match, describing it as a rather chaotic affair. He noted that PSG started the game well by scoring the opening goal but admitted that they lost control at some point, resulting in a back-and-forth exchange with their opponent. Enrique acknowledged that both teams were strong in this aspect of the game and mentioned that Newcastle had the opportunity to equalize early on.
Despite the challenges, PSG continued to create scoring opportunities, including clear chances for Ousmane Dembele and Kylian Mbappe. He expressed disappointment that the match was closely contested and could have swung in either direction.
Enrique emphasized that their upcoming matches would be like finals, and he regarded the match against Milan as a crucial one. He explained that winning this match would have almost secured their qualification due to the previous result against Dortmund. Enrique also highlighted the competitive nature of their group, often referred to as the “group of death,” and emphasized the importance of fan support. He appreciated the presence of Parisian fans in the stands and expressed a commitment to reciprocate their support with positive results.
