Lewis Miley posts an emotional message after his champions league debut for Newcastle United

For the second time in as many games, Eddie Howe’s team was defeated by Borussia Dortmund, giving Newcastle a mountain to climb in the group. It appeared like one game too many for this injury-ravaged team, even though the visitors haven’t exactly been outmatched in any of their European matches this season.

Because there weren’t enough bodies to go around, Howe was obliged to use Tino Livramento out of position and wasn’t even able to replace him on his bench.

Livramento made a good impression, which is encouraging, and even in losing, there was another gratifying sight.

In his first senior club debut of the season, Lewis Miley made history by being the youngest player to represent Newcastle in the Champions League.

After the game, the 17-year-old sent an emotional statement on Instagram.

He commented, “Not the outcome we wanted last night, support was top as always.”

“Making my Champions League debut was a proud moment for my family and me personally.”

Newcastle injuries: Chance for Miley

Well-received for his preseason performances, it’s unfortunate that glandular fever has prevented Miley from playing a larger role.

However, the opportunity Newcastle’s injury situation presents to young players is undoubtedly a good thing.

Miley may be able to seize and run with the same opportunity that Livramento has seized. The midfield options are further limited by Bruno Guimaraes’ ban for Saturday’s trip to Bournemouth.

Miley appears to be liked by Howe, who may give him a go at the beginning of the season.

With all of the illnesses and bans he’s dealing with, a strong performance would be greatly welcomed.
