Former Coach Tony Dungy Now Reacts To The Signing Of Rams New QB Carson Wentz

‘Can Help the Los Angeles Rams!’ Signs Carson Wentz – Tony Dungy Reacts to New Quarterback
Everyone enjoys a good underdog story, but Carson Wentz’s journey to the Los Angeles Rams isn’t exactly one of them.

The Rams officially signed Wentz on Wednesday, giving him the opportunity to rebuild a career that began as the No. 2 overall choice in the 2016 NFL Draft. That made him the polar opposite of a “underdog,” however he has since fallen out of favor in the league, having been released by the Eagles, the Colts, and the Commanders…

And now what? Matthew Stafford is nursing an injury. The Rams have an open position. And Hall of Fame coach Tony Dungy is looking forward to the game.

“I wish @cj_wentz the best with this move,” Dungy tweeted Tuesday night. “I feel he can help the Rams while Stafford works his way back to full health.”

There are no statistics that indicate Dungy is correct. But Wentz, despite his (sudden!) 30th birthday, has that draft-day pedigree. He’s 6-5, 237. He was a standout at North Dakota State.

Dungy has always liked him, for what it’s worth.

Dungy, now a long-time NBC pundit, projected in January 2018 that Wentz will become “the best quarterback in the league in a very short time.”

Dungy was completely wrong.

When Wentz joined the Colts in 2021, Dungy predicted that he would turn the team into “Super Bowl contenders.”

Dungy was completely wrong yet again.

Wentz is “coming off the couch” as the Rams add him to a roster that includes journeyman Brett Rypien, who passed for 130 yards and an interception in the Green Bay Packers’ 20-3 loss on Sunday.

Perhaps the guidance of Rams head coach Sean McVay will assist Wentz in some way. But what the 3-6 Rams actually need is a recovery of Stafford’s thumb injury as L.A. goes into its bye week and then plays again on Nov. 19 at home against the Seahawks.
