Newcastle United fans have one more away day in the Champions League Group Stage, as they travel to Paris Saint-Germain’s Parc des Princes.
Newcastle United fans have criticized Paris Saint-Germain’s ‘unacceptable’ decision, which will result in 400 Magpies fans missing out on a European night under the lights at the Parc des Princes.
The French giants are thought to have reduced the away supporter allotment for the November 28 encounter on’safety grounds,’ with the revised amount of tickets sold to Newcastle United fans now falling within UEFA’s 5% stadium capacity regulations.
The Newcastle United Supporters Trust (NUST) has picked up on the problem and exacerbated it, demanding answers from PSG. On Thursday, the Trust issued a statement expressing their “deep disappointment.” “Our understanding is that PSG made this decision unilaterally on safety grounds, with no compelling evidence, reason, or justification for their decision,” NUST said.
According to UEFA regulations, host clubs in their club competitions are obligated to allocate 5% of their stadium capacity to away supporters. Additionally, these regulations emphasize that host clubs bear the responsibility of ensuring the safety of all attending fans.
It has come to our attention that Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has cited local police advice as the reason for not allowing a full allocation of Newcastle United fans. The basis for this decision seems questionable, especially considering the commendable behavior of Newcastle fans in previous away matches in Milan and Dortmund. This raises concerns about the appropriateness of football organization, preparedness, and management by the Parisian authorities.
Newcastle United Supporters Trust (NUST) expressed apprehension that if UEFA does not challenge PSG’s allocation decision, it could establish a precedent for other visiting clubs in the future. This means that, should Luis Enrique’s team advance from the group stage, supporters of Manchester United, Manchester City, and Arsenal might face restricted allocations during away matches in the French capital.
