West Brom manager Carlos Corberan
praised Southampton ahead of their upcoming clash, emphasizing the need for his team to excel in every aspect to secure a victory. Formerly Marcelo Bielsa’s assistant at Leeds United and having guided Huddersfield to the Championship playoff final, Corberan is enjoying success with West Brom, trailing Saints by just one point after 15 matches, setting up a fourth-versus-fifth encounter at St Mary’s.
Despite their proximity in the standings, Corberan recognizes the challenge of facing Russell Martin’s unbeaten Saints and insists on near-perfection from his side. He highlighted the diverse aspects of the game, from goal kicks and pressing to build-up play and both attacking and defending in the final third. Corberan acknowledged that managing the game effectively is crucial to achieving a positive result against a strong Southampton side.
Reflecting on Southampton’s strategy, he noted their summer rebuilding efforts after relegation, selling some players and bringing in new additions. According to Corberan, Southampton has a clear target of returning to the Premier League and has taken deliberate steps to achieve that goal.
Corberan emphasized the importance of confidence in winning games, stating that lacking confidence makes matches more challenging and affects a team’s bravery, ball possession in difficult moments, and overall resilience. He expressed his team’s desire to maintain their recent level of performance and be a highly competitive force. Recognizing the difficulty of Saturday’s game, Corberan emphasized the need for adaptability and competitiveness in various scenarios.
