Lewis Hall: Eddie Howe explains why the left-back for Newcastle United was once again substituted off at halftime.
In the 2-0 loss at AFC Bournemouth, Lewis Hall’s first Premier League start for Newcastle United lasted barely forty-five minutes.
Hall was named in Eddie Howe’s starting lineup for the Carabao Cup matches against Manchester United and City, as well as the Champions League matchup against Borussia Dortmund. This was Hall’s fourth start for Newcastle overall.
However, in three of his four starts, the 19-year-old has been substituted by head coach Eddie Howe at halftime; the lone exception was the 3-0 victory over Man United, in which he scored before being replaced after 74 minutes.
Despite the growing injury concerns, the Newcastle manager also stated to The Gazette following the game that Hall isn’t yet ready to play 90 minutes for his team.
Howe clarified that Hall’s early exit wasn’t actually a criticism on Lewis’ performance.
“With our early substitution and we know at this moment Lewis won’t play a full 90 minutes and I didn’t want to impact my ability to make changes from the bench so that was the reason for the decision.”
Due to suspension and injuries, Newcastle was without 11 first-team players for their encounter against Bournemouth. Additionally, Hall won’t be available for The Magpies’ upcoming Premier League game after the international break.
