Eddie Howe now confirms Newcastle United are set to activate January transfer clause of 19-year-old talent amid injury woes

The Gambian winger joined Newcastle United this summer before being loaned away.
During the January transfer window, Newcastle United had the option of recalling Yankuba Minteh from his loan spell at Feyenoord.

Minteh joined the Magpies in a £7 million transfer from Danish club Odense Boldklub last summer, but was quickly loaned back to the Dutch champions.

And, as his team continues to be devastated by injuries, Eddie Howe has disclosed that the Magpies are exploring a recall.

The 19-year-old would not be joining the Premier League squad. In terms of offensive alternatives. Alexander Isak, Callum Wilson, Jacob Murphy, Harvey Barnes, and Elliot Anderson are presently sidelined for Newcastle.

Miguel Almiron could be added to that list as United wait for more information on the hamstring injury suffered by the Paraguayan against Bournemouth on Saturday.

“We’ll look at our players that are out on loan, with a view to whether they could potentially strengthen us,” he said. “If it’s good for their career as well, we’ll certainly look into it.”

“He’s (Minteh) done exceptionally well, but he’s currently injured.” He’s returned for an evaluation of that injury because we need to evaluate how he’s doing.

“We need to work out how serious the injury is and when he’ll be back, and then we’ll make a decision on him, like we would with all our loan players.”

Minteh has impressed in the Netherlands, scoring three goals in five Eredivisie appearances. He’s also appeared in the Champions League twice.

“I think his loan spell has been a productive one,” he said. “He’s scored goals and been a part of a winning team.” He clearly has skill, yet the Premier League is not like any other league in Europe.

“This does not preclude players from entering or leaving the Premier League.” He’s someone we admire, and he has the athletic characteristics we require.”
