Injuries, injuries, and more injuries – it seems like that’s all we get to write about these days.
Callum Wilson confirmed his departure from the England squad today, but he did so with a defiant statement.
Wilson was 50/50 to face Bournemouth on Saturday evening, and the fact that he was been named to England’s squad gave Newcastle fans confidence that his recent injury wasn’t a major problem.
Wilson has confirmed his latest injury setback via social media
Unfortunately, Howe acknowledged after the Bournemouth game that Wilson’s injury was worse than first anticipated, and the next day it was reported that Wilson had withdrawn from international duty.
That news was confirmed in the media on Monday morning, and later that morning, Callum Wilson released a forceful message confirming the news.
“Unfortunately, a recent setback has forced me to withdraw from the squad that I had worked so hard to join.”
“Strong walls shake but never fall, so I’ll be back soon.”
“Good luck to the lads in the upcoming fixtures.”
Unless Wilson is 100% fit he should not be risked against Chelsea
It’s unclear whether “soon” means he’ll be ready for the Chelsea game, but we don’t need to rush him back and complicate matters.
We’d rather make do with a makeshift striker than risk injuring our current players and losing them for the remainder of the season.
To be honest, this injury situation is taking a major toll on us; we simply want to be positive again.
