Former Sunderland star was surprised by what Jobe Bellingham did against Birmingham

Dion Sanderson said following Sunderland’s triumph over Birmingham City that he was taken aback by Jobe Bellingham.

Sanderson told The Northern Echo that it was ‘wonderful’ to see his former teammate triumph at the Stadium of Light.
Following a fantastic loan spell with Sunderland during the 2020-21 season, Dion Sanderson joined Birmingham City on loan the following year before joining the club permanently in the summer.

Sanderson has spent the last few years playing alongside Jobe Bellingham, and the teenager is expected to break into the Blues’ first team during the 2022-23 season.

Jobe made the audacious choice to go to Wearside this season and has since started all 16 Championship games, scoring three goals.

The 18-year-old hadn’t scored since a brace against Rotherham United in August, but he was first on the scoresheet against his former club as Sunderland won 3-1.

While Birmingham fans were devastated by Jobe’s departure, Dion Sanderson wished him luck and said that he didn’t expect him to score on Saturday.

The 18-year-old hadn’t scored since August, when he scored twice against Rotherham United, but he was the first to score against his previous club as Sunderland won 3-1.

While Birmingham fans were shocked by Jobe’s departure, Dion Sanderson wished him well and remarked that he did not expect him to score on Saturday.

When will Jobe Bellingham get his much-needed rest?

Earlier this month, Tony Mowbray emphatically communicated that Jobe Bellingham required a break, but the midfielder has started both games since then. With Sunderland’s next match against Plymouth Argyle not scheduled for another eleven days, there is concern that Mowbray might be considering this period as Bellingham’s ‘break.’

Although Bellingham won’t be representing Sunderland in the upcoming matches, he could potentially feature in up to three international fixtures over the next month. The England U19s are set to play against Romania, Japan, and Mexico in Marbella during the international break, with the last game taking place a week from today.

Despite Bellingham’s impressive performance against Birmingham, it might be perplexing if he is included in the starting lineup against Plymouth next week. Sunderland has alternatives in Alex Pritchard and Bradley Dack readily available on the pitch. Therefore, it is essential for Mowbray to adhere to his earlier statement and ensure that Bellingham gets a well-deserved rest.
