**Rams Introduce Veteran Carson Wentz as New Backup Quarterback**
Upon their return from a bye week, the Los Angeles Rams have enlisted seasoned quarterback Carson Wentz as their new backup, replacing Brett Rypien after an underwhelming performance against the Green Bay Packers. Rams coach Sean McVay explained the decision, emphasizing the opportunity to enhance the quarterback roster. McVay expressed confidence in starter Matthew Stafford’s availability post a sprained UCL.
Drafted second overall in 2016, Wentz spent five seasons as the Philadelphia Eagles’ starter before joining the Indianapolis Colts and, subsequently, the Washington Commanders. Despite a fluctuating season in Washington, Wentz’s experience and extensive football background prompted the Rams to consider him as a valuable addition.
Wentz, who remained unsigned during the summer and the initial 10 weeks of the season, underwent a physical during the bye week. Despite limited on-site interaction, he extensively collaborated with Rams offensive coordinator Zac Robinson via Zoom, familiarizing himself with the offensive framework. McVay praised Wentz’s quick grasp of information during Monday’s practice, highlighting his professionalism and adaptability.
The Rams, anticipating Wentz to support from the sidelines, are set to resume action against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday at SoFi Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 1:25 p.m. PST.
