Despite an initial 0-3 start to the season, the Vikings have made significant strides, ranking fourth in points allowed per game, fifth in defensive efficiency, fifth in takeaways, and seventh in yards per game, according to ESPN’s Kevin Seifert. The absence of veteran linebacker Jordan Hicks, placed on injured reserve due to a right leg injury, is particularly impactful. Hicks, as the team’s leading tackler and communicator of defensive play calls, leaves a notable void.
In a news conference on November 14, Flores acknowledged the substantial impact of Hicks’ absence, stating, “It’s a significant loss, to put it bluntly.”

Vikings Plan to Replace Jordan Hicks by Committee
When Brian Flores assumed the role of defensive coordinator last winter, he emphasized the importance of having versatile players on the defensive side, and now, in the absence of Jordan Hicks, he plans to leverage that versatility.
In the recent victory over the New Orleans Saints, fourth-year linebacker Troy Dye stepped in as the immediate replacement for Hicks and could potentially earn his first start of the season on Sunday.
Rookie Ivan Pace Jr. is positioned to take on the responsibility of relaying defensive play calls, having gained some experience in the role during the preseason.
Flores also highlighted safety Josh Metellus as someone capable of filling in as a linebacker in certain defensive packages.
While Brian Asamoah is another option at linebacker, having missed three consecutive games with an ankle injury, there’s uncertainty about his availability for Sunday’s game. According to KSTP’s Darren Wolfson, Asamoah’s chances of playing are considered “50/50.”
