West Brom already plan to lose three key players in January

West Brom plan ahead as they expect to lose Semi Ajayi and Grady Diangana in January

West Brom are putting plans in place for when they lose Semi Ajayi and Grady Diangana, with the two likely to be called up to the DR Congo and Nigeria squads respectively for the Africa Cup of Nations, according to Birmingham Live.

The news outlet shared on 15 November that Carlos Corberan already has a plan in place to cope with the absence of both key players for the tournament which runs from 14 January until 11 February.

Albion’s squad depth will be tested as Caleb Taylor is likely to step up in Ajayi’s absence, while Diangana has less of an obvious solution, with both players likely to miss five games if their sides are successful.

They knew it was coming

The club would have already known the possibility they would be losing both players for an extended period in the new year, which has made planning easier, and that burden could be lessened if neither Nigeria nor DR Congo impresses in the tournament.

Albion will play Blackburn, Norwich, Plymouth, Birmingham and Ipswich in the time when both stars could be away, which would make for an uncomfortable situation, particularly if their injury woes continue.

Both players are currently on international duty with their respective countries in the latest hint that they are in the plans to be called up to the official squads when AFCON begins in January.

It will prove a troubling situation for Corberan and his squad, but with plans already being put in place, preparation will allow them to make the best of an unfortunate situation.
