21-year-old now admits signing for Newcastle was a really ‘tough decision’

Despite his short tenure at Newcastle United, Tino Livramento is already experiencing the love on Tyneside.

After Southampton was relegated from the Premier League, the 21-year-old spent £32 million to sign for the Magpies in the summer. The defender’s value was a point of contention during the protracted negotiations, making it a difficult trade to close. However, Eddie Howe’s acquisition of the player who will eventually take Kieran Trippier’s place at Newcastle was ultimately successful.

The issue about Livramento is that he knew going into Newcastle that he wouldn’t be picked first. Though he would always be Trippier’s second fiddle, he would have the opportunity to learn from him before eventually taking his place.

The right-back has now acknowledged that leaving Southampton and moving to the North East was a very “tough decision” and that he had to consider the big picture. Still, he is happy with the choice he made.

Tino Livramento on his decision to sign for Newcastle

Livramento, who plays for the England Under-21 team right now, was asked about his summer transfer to Newcastle by the Daily Mail before their match against Serbia. “The move was a tough decision, don’t get me wrong,” he said. “Anyone in my position, to have that opportunity, would do what I’ve done.”

“It’s a novel experience—not only a new club, but a whole new region of England—way up north. It has been thrilling.

When you go out for coffee, you’ll see a lot of admirers, but they’re all polite, respectful, and kind. Everyone likes you up there, it seems like a family.

Newcastle fans already love Livramento

Though it was a challenging choice, Livramento was certain he wanted to make it. He was excited to work on the Toon project and his choice is now being supported. The defender is currently playing a lot more regularly and never fails to impress Eddie Howe when he gives him the opportunity to play.

He was superb in the 3-0 victory at Old Trafford as well as in his debut start against Manchester City. Although Livramento has been Newcastle’s hero in the Carabao Cup thus far, he is now seeing more action in the Champions League and Premier League.

Livramento appears right at home in the starting lineup for the Toon, albeit that may be due to Newcastle’s injury crisis. He is a player of great skill, so when Trippier decides to hang up his boots, the right-back spot is in very good hands.

He made the right choice in joining Newcastle, as the supporters constantly remind him by yelling “Tino! Tino! Tino!” at him.
